Successful Marketing to the Over 50’s

Julian Healey of Springtide Marketing took to the national stage recently as a speaker at the 50+ Marketing Seminar at Kensington Olympia. Joining a panel of leading experts on the grey market, he spoke on ‘How to reach mature consumers – media channels to market’.

Drawing on his own experience of marketing to this sector, backed up with current readership and audience data, Julian’s talk identified the key media that are read, watched and listened to by 50+ consumers. He also offered valuable advice on which advertising media are likely to produce the best response rates.

Linked to the London Retirement Show in July, the seminar attracted delegates from all over the UK. Businesses as diverse as care homes, footwear retailers, health food suppliers and charities were all represented.

“This is probably the largest show in the UK dedicated to the older consumer,” Julian commented, “so it was quite an honour to be invited along as a speaker. The grey market offers a huge opportunity for advertisers, and delegates will have gone away with their heads crammed full of useful information on marketing successfully to this sector.”

Julian’s next talk on the Over 50 market will be on Tuesday 13th October when he will address a meeting of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in Carlisle.

Helping our members to develop their businesses

BBN is all about networking to help group members get more sales leads through referrals and recommendations. But networking goes much deeper than simply passing names and numbers each week!

The BBN group met recently at one our of members place of business – Troffers Tea Room at Hagg End Farm in rural Cumbria.

Hagg End Farm is situated towards the Lake District end of the Dales Way, just a short distance from Windermere. Offering bed and breakfast, cups of tea and cakes to walkers, the farm also rears their own sheep, pigs and chickens producing a fantastic range of local produce.

Like many businesses in the current climate, Hagg End Farm faces a number of challenges – many of which are beyond their immediate control. For example, being located within the Lake District National Park, the farm is not allowed to encourage cars to the tea room, and with unpredicatable weather, the volume of walkers passing through the farm can fluctuate considerably.

So 8 members of the BBN networking group met at Hagg End Farm for a hearty breakfast and a “syngery session”. Basically, this was an opportunity for the farm owners to explain their current challenges to the group, and for the group members to make suggestions for overcoming those challenges.

The session was hugely productive with plenty of suggestions for Hagg End Farm to take their business forward, not to mention the superb home cooked breakfast!

So next time you go for a walk in the Lakes, why not stop at this fantastic Dales Way tea room and bed and breakfast?

The priceless support offered by such synergy sessions is just one benefit of joining the Lancaster/Lakes networking group. Why not find out more for yourself and come along to one of our breakfast networking meetings? We meet at the Longlands at Tewitfield near Carnforth every Friday morning. Simply contact BBN for more information, and find out more about business networking in Lancaster.
